Background: JUNK ART - AS DISTINCT FROM POP ART - WAS ON SHOW AT CIRCULAR QUAY IN SYDNEY THIS WEEK. THE DECK OF A CHINESE JUNK, MOORED AT THE QUAY, HAS BECOME AN ART GALLERY SHOWING THE WORKS OF TWO SYDNEY ARTISTS, GEOFF PIKE AND BOB BOOTH.

THE CHINESE JUNK, CALLED THE ONE STEP, WILL SOON BE OUTWARD BOUND FROM SYDNEY FOR AN ADVENTURE CRUISE ACROSS THE PACIFIC. ITS CREW OF EIGHT - EXPERIENCED SAILORS - IS TAKING THE KIND OF TRIP THAT MOST PEOPLE ONLY DREAM ABOUT. THEY SAY IT COULD LAST FOR FIVE YEARS. THEY'RE SELLING THE PICTURES TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE TRIP.

MOST OF THE PICTURES ON SHOW AT THE FLOATING GALLERY ARE SEASCAPES, AND MANY SHOW CIRCULAR QUAY AS IT WAS LAST CENTURY.

THE TALL SPARS OF THE CLIPPERS OF 1877, LOADING WOOL FOR THE WORLD, MAKE A PICTURESQUE COMPARISON WITH THE TINY JUNK, WAITING IMPATIENTLY AT HER BERTH.
