    In Lebanon Army soldiers who fought on the side of right-wing Christian forces have now surrendered their positions to Arab League peace-keeping forces.

    SYNOPSIS: The Lebanese troops who had been fighting alongside the right-wing forces paraded in Beirut on Friday (12 November). They had been involved in heavy fighting against left-wing Lebanese and Palestinian forces. Major-General Hanna Said, commander-in-chief of the Lebanese armed forces, reviewed the troops as they paraded. The Lebanese Army split into two main factions about eight moths ago with the left-wing forces forming the lebanese Arab Army which supported the palestinians in the 19-month long civil war.

    These Christian troops have now returned to their barracks in Beirut and have placed themselves under the Lebanese Defence Ministry's control. They are expected to form the basis of the now Lebanese Army after the end of the civil war.

    General al Said addressed the troops and praised them for their performances in battle. The peace-keeping force, mainly made up of Syrian troops who were already in Lebanon, has entered the Moslem areas of Beirut and expect to enter the remainder of the city on Monday.

    The peace-keeping force commanded by a Lebanese office, Colonel Ahmed al-Haj is responsible to President Elias Sarkis. On the day they entered the Moslem areas of Beirut. Several people were killed when shells hit a market and mosque in the area.
