  • Description

The kidnappers of Fiat director, Signor Oberdan Sallustro, on Wednesday (29 March) renewed their threat to execute him. The kidnappers don't say when the execution will take place, only that it will be carried out "at an opportune moment".

The new threat to Signor Sallustro's life comes after a statement from the Fiat company that it is unable to meet the demands of the kidnappers - and some hours after the latest deadline set by the terrorists for his execution.

The terrorists has had demanded that Fiat distributes a million dollars (GBP385-thousand sterling) worth of supplies to schools in poor areas of Argentina and that the company reinstate 250 workers fired from their Cordoba plat during labour disturbances last October.

The kidnapping of Signor Sallustro was followed by a series of messages from the terrorists each extending the deadline for his execution. The latest deadline expired without any extension being announced, until Wednesday's message which asserted that Signor Sallustro would be killed.

SYNOPSIS: Argentina - and directors of the Fiat company worked thorough the night on Monday searching for a formula which would allow them to secure the release of their colleague, Signor Oberdan Sallustro - held by terrorists. The executives were faced with a midnight deadline - at which time, the kidnappers said, Signor Sallustro would be executed unless their demands were met. The demands included the distribution of a million dollars worth of supplies to schools in poor areas or Argentina, and the reinstatement of two hundred and fifty Fiat workers fired from the Cordoba plant during labour troubles last year. The stumbling block was that the terrorists wanted a leaflet outlining their views included in every package given to the children. This the government of Argentina refused to allow. The deadline approached.....

As police kept watch - more news from the kidnappers. They announced they were extending their deadline by a further 24 hours. But less than twenty-four hours later was to come an announcement from the Fiat directors that they were unable to meet the demands of the kidnappers. For a time - silence from the terrorists. But on Wednesday they announced that Signor Sallustro would be executed. When wasn't revealed - only that it would be at an "opportune time".

Police are showing keen interest in this shop. It's here that massages from the kidnappers have been found -- and on Wednesday they were anxiously waiting in case the terrorists decided on any different course of action.
