  • Description

Some of the 3,300 American police and security men, assigned to safeguard Soviet Premier Kruschev during his visit to New York, frantically searched the Commodore Hotel immediately before the Russian leader arrived from Washington Sept 17 to attend a luncheon at the hotel given in his honour by Mayor Wagner and the New York Corporation. An anonymous telephone call said three bombs had been planted. The police apparently found nothing.

New York was a near 'armed camp' for Premier Kruschev's arrival. As he stepped from the train at Pennsylvania Station, a large police escort whisked him into a small baggage room where he was greeted by Richard Patterson, representing Mayor Wager, hurried to a waiting closed car, and, shielded by several score motor-cycle police, hurriedly driven first to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, where he and his family will stay, and then on to the Commodore Hotel for the City's official luncheon.
