  • Description

    More than 180 of the
latest models from Japan's motor-industry- ranging from tiny motorcycles to huge
dump trucks - were unveiled at Tokyo's Fifth Motor Show held at the Korakuen
    Stadium, October 10.

Outstanding features of the show included: a latest model passenger car with
overdrive, a sports car with glass wool seat and reinforced plastic body, and a
giant bus with maximum speed per hour and capacity for 63 passengers.

the first automobile was imported into Japan about seventy years ago and was put
on its road test -- to the consternation of pedestrians at the "horseless
carriage" -- near this same spot. Today the industry occupies an important place
in Japanese production, the Japanese turn out half a dozen popular brands of
passenger cars; among them Japanese-labour-and-materials assembly versions of
the Hillman and Austin cars, both of which are adaptable to Japan's narrow roads
and are economic to run. Emphasis is on the small car.
