    LONDON ZOO TOOK ON A NURSERY AIR TODAY (THURSDAY) AS THE ZOO AUTHORITIES DECIDED TO PUT EIGHT OF THEIR MORE PRECOCIOUS YOUNGSTERS ON PUBLIC SHOW.

    STAR ATTRACTIONS WERE THE TWIN LION CUBS BORN ON JANUARY 24 TO RESIDENT LIONS 'CAROLE' AND 'SINGH'. BOTH MALES, THEY HAVE BEEN NAMED PAUL AND PAMPAS.

    THEIR MOTHER, 'CAROLE', WHO IS NINE YEARS OLD, CROSSED THE IRISH SEA TO TAKE UP RESIDENCE IN LONDON ZOO IN 1957. BEFORE THAT SHE HAD BEEN IN BELFAST ZOO. FATHER SINGH, EIGHT YEARS OLD, ARRIVED IN LONDON FROM ARNHEM, HOLLAND IN 1961.

    THE DINGO PUPS WERE BORN TO JANE AND REX ON JANUARY 25. THEY RE A SPECIES OF WILD DOG FROM AUSTRALIA. THE PARENTS WERE THEMSELVES BORN IN LONDON ZOO.

    DINGOS ARE VERY MUCH LIKE THE DOMESTIC DOG AND, ALTHOUGH THEIR ORIGIN IS UNCERTAIN, IT IS THOUGHT THEY ARE DESCENDED FROM THE DOMESTIC DOGS OF THE AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINES. ALTHOUGH THEY CAN UTTER SHORT DOG-LIKE BARKS, THEY SELDOM DO SO AND MORE OFTEN HOWL LIKE A WOLF.
