    President Kennedy of the United States was at the Washington National Airport June 8 to welcome President Youlou of the Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville) on his arrival for an official visit.

    The Congo President - who is also a Roman Catholic priest - was received with full military honours. After he shook hands with President Kennedy and other officials military band played the national anthems of the two countries while a battery fired a 21-gun salute.

    In a speech of welcome at the airport, President Kennedy described President Youlou as a man who had a passion for freedom, not only for his own country, but for people everywhere. President Youlou in his reply said that Africa had a desperate need of American aid. He appealed to industrialists and businessmen to invest in his country, Later he stressed that his visit was not for the purpose of securing immediate financial assistance.
