  • Description

A CONTINGENT OF MALAYAN POLICE LEFT SINGAPORE THIS WEEK FOR BRUNEI. THE MEN -- TOTALLING ABOUT 150 -- WERE AIRLIFTED IN TRANSPORT PLANES OF THE ROYAL AIR FORCE.

IN THE MALAYAN PARLIAMENT, THE DEPUTY PREMIER (TUN ABDUL RAZAK) SAID MALAYA SUPPORTED THE GOVERNMENT OF THE SULTAN OF BRUNEI. THE POLICE WERE SENT AT THE SULTAN'S REQUEST TO SAFEGUARD LIES AND PROPERTY FOLLOWING THE RECENT TROUBLES THERE.

HE POINTED OUT THAT SINCE 1956 MALAYAN POLICE PERSONNEL AND OFFICERS HAVE BEEN SERVING THE BRUNEI GOVERNMENT. MALAYA HAS ALSO BEEN TRAINING BRUNEI PERSONNEL.

MEMBERS OF THE OPPOSITION PARTIES, HOWEVER, CRITICIZED THE GOVERNMENT FOR SENDING THE POLICE CONTINGENT.
