Background: Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, the Libyan Head of State, arrived in Tunis on Thursday, February 11th, to start a five-day official visit. He was met by Tunisian Prime Minister Hedi Nouira and Foreign Minister Mohamed Masmoudi - President Habib Bourguiba is in Switzerland.
An interesting sidelight to the enthusiastic welcome given to Colonel Gaddafi was given after the reception was over - local pickpockets, working their way through the crowds, managed to get away with a haul of some 1,800 dinars (about 1,430 pounds sterling - 3,430 dollars).
