  • Description

The Vietnamese Ambassador to Paris, Mr Vo Van Sung, has strongly condemned the actions of the Chinese in Indochina.

SYNOPSIS: On Tuesday (6 March) there were news reports from Peking, saying the Chinese were withdrawing from vietnam. But Mr Vo Van Sung had doubts about China's intentions.

Reports from Vietnam said several Chinese divisions had been sent to the frontier regions of Laos. At the same time, the Chinese authorities are said to have intensified their espionage activities in the Northern parts of Laos. It was this part of Indochina which particularly concerned the Ambassador. He said that while china was telling the international community that it was withdrawing its troops from Vietnam, it was in fact, preparing to establish "hegemony" over Vietnam, Laos and Kampuchea (Cambodia).

Mr Vo Van Sung said the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Laos were gravely threatened. He claimed that preparations for an aggressive war against Laos were designed to sabotage the solidarity between Vietnam, Laos and Kampuchea, and to bring about, step, the expansionism of China into Indochina, and south-east Asia. China was, he added, cold-bloodedly intensifying its aggressive war against Vietnam, and the Peking authorities were preparing to put into action their threats of war against Laos.

In preparing a war of aggression against Vietnam, said the Ambassador, the Peking authorities intended to use Laos as a launching pad to attack western Vietnam.
