The Congo Peoples Republic and the Socialist Republic of Bulgaria signed a cultural agreement on Monday (27 June). The agreement covers cultural co-operation in 1978 and 1979.
SYNOPSIS: It's a step further than the cultural agreement between the two countries signed in Sofia in 1970. Bulgaria will grant scholarships to Congolese students, and both countries will exchange scientific programmes.
Signing the agreement were the Bulgarian Ambassador, Mr. Yanko Ivanov, and the Congolese Minister for Culture, Mr. Taty-Loutard. From now on, both countries co-operate to reach better understanding in the fields of the arts and culture through artistic exhibitions. Bulgaria and the Congo established diplomatic links in 1964. Apart from Bulgaria, the Congo maintains close relations with China, and Cuba, and it's on very good terms with the Soviet Union and other Communist states. It gets a great deal of financial and technical assistance from them.
