  • Description

4,000 people are homeless in the Italian town of Tuscania after the earthquakes which shook it on 6th February. At least 20 people lost their lives in the disaster.

Yesterday, 8th February, President Giuseppe Saragat and the Italian Prime Minister, Signor Emilio Colombo, spoke to the 4,000 people living in tents outside the town. The Italian Ministry of Health has sent a team of chemists, bacteriologists and sanitation engineers to ensure that water supplies to the camp are not polluted. Supplies of disinfectants, vaccines against typhoid, anti-biotics and blood plasma have also been sent.

The town has now been totally evacuated and declared uninhabitable for the time being.
