    THE SOVIET UNION'S SPACESHIP SOYUZ-FIVE, WITH COSMONAUT BORIS VOLYNOV ABOARD WAS REPORTED TO HAVE RETURNED SAFELY TO EARTH TODAY (SATURDAY), CLIMAXING A SUCCESSFUL DUAL SPACE MISSION THAT INCLUDED THE MID-ORBIT TRANSFER OF TWO COSMONAUTS FROM SOYUZ-5 TO ITS SISTER SPACE THREE SPACEMEN, YEVGENY KHRUNOV, ALEXEI YELISEYEV, AND VLADIMIR SHATALOV. IN LONDON, THE DIRECTOR OF JORDELL BANK RADIO ASTRONOMY STATION, SIR BERNARD LOVELL, HAS PREDICTED THAT THE SOVIET UNION WOULD SOON HAVE A PERMANENT SPACE STATION IN EARTH ORBIT.

    TODAY'S LANDING OF THE SECOND SPACE CRAFT, BRINGS TO A SUCCESSFUL CLOSE A DIFFICULT MISSION DURING WHICH SOYUZ-FOUR AND FIVE LINKED UP AND FLEW TOGETHER FOR FOUR-AND-A-HALF HOURS, FORMING WHAT HAS BEEN DESCRIBED AS THE WORLD'S FIRST SPACE STATION. MOSCOW TELEVISION SHOWED THE OPERATION SOON AFTER IT TOOK PLACE.

    WHILE THE CRAFT WERE JOINED, KHRUNOV AND YELESEYEV WALKED IN SPACE FROM SOYUZ-FIVE TO SOYUZ-FOUR IN THE FIRST EVER SPACE TRANSFER OF CREW.
