    Background: Many people, thousands of them gathered at Azad Park, Old Delhi where stands the statue of Gandhiji. Some are seated on chairs and others standing. At 11 Oclock Marian Anderson, accompanied by the U.S. Ambassador, Mr. Bunkar and others, arrived. She laid a wreath at the feet of the monument and then sat down. The President Mr. Agarwal of Delhi Municipal Committee addressed the gathering and introduced Marian Anderson. Later she was requested to give her performance. She spoke slowly and first addressed the gathering in which she spoke highly of Gandhiji. Later she sang two pieces.
