  • Description

Two hours after King Frederick IX and Queen Ingrid of Denmark arrived in Paris on April 5th to start their four-day State visit to France, King Frederick paid an official call on President Charles de Gaulle at the latter's official Paris residence, the Elysee Palace,
De Gaulle had been at Orly airport to receive the Danish royal couple on their arrival.

King Frederick arrived at the Elysee Palace wearing the uniform of an admiral of the fleet. Queen Ingrid did not accompany him - she was visiting an exhibition of treasures from the churches and cathedrals of France.

The King carried with him a case containing the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Elephant, with which he decorated de Gaulle.

A guard of honour of Republican Guards on the palace lawn presented arms. The King mounted the palace steps between more guards and de Gaulle came to the door to meet him with a warm handshake.

The meeting lasted a little over half an hour.
