  • Description

HUNDREDS OF STUDENTS FROM IBADAN UNIVERSITY MARCHED THROUGH THE STREETS OF THE WESTERN NIGERIAN CITY YESTERDAY CARRYING BANNERS DEMANDING THAT NIGERIAN BE UNIFIED AND THAT FORCE SHOULD BE USED, IF NECESSARY, TO END POLITICAL DIFFERENCES BETWEEN EASTERN NIGERIA AND THE REST OF THE COUNTRY.

THE DEMONSTRATIONS PASSED OFF PEACEFULLY AND THERE WERE NO INCIDENTALS ALTHOUGH ARMED POLICE STOOD BY DURING THE MARCH.

THE OBJECT OF THE MARCH WAS TO LEAVE A MEMORANDUM AT THE OFFICE OF THE MILITARY GOVERNOR OF THE WESTERN REGION, IN WHICH THEY CALLED FOR THE USE OF FORCE IF NECESSARY TO KEEP THE COUNTRY UNITED, SHOULD ALL PEACEFUL AVENUES FAIL.

AMONG THE BANNERS AND PLACARDS THE CARRIED WERE SOME CALLING ON COLONEL ODUMEGWU OJOKWU, MILITARY GOVERNOR OF THE EASTERN REGION, TO CO-OPERATE TO SAVE NIGERIA.

THE CONFLICT IN NIGERIA HAS ARISEN BECAUSE EASTERN NIGERIA'S COLONELS OJOKWU FAVOURS GREATER ??? FOR HIS REGION WITHIN A NIGERIAN CONFEDERATION, WHILE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WANTS OVERALL CONTROL OF ALL NIGERIA'S REGIONS.
