Background: Visnews filmed Feb 17 and 18 the aftermath of the violent cyclone which struck the Australian state of Queensland with windspeeds of up to 110 miles per hour, destroying and damaging houses, factories and crops of sugar cane.

In the small town of Home Hill every building in the main street was damaged to a large extent by the fury of the winds. Home Hill and other towns were cut off from the outside world for several hours when telephone poles were uprooted.

In the sugar town of Ayr the cyclone flattened and broke off a large part of the GBP10,000,000 annual sugar crop. A huge railway goods shed was blown down and equipment scattered several hundred yards. The Roman Catholic Convent of St. Francis had a large section of its roof carried away. Sydney suffered from heavy flooding after 24 hours of continuous rain.
