President Sadat of Egypt's adviser and special envoy, Dr. Mohammed Hassan el-Zayyat, arrived in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott on Saturday (Jan 26) for talks on the Middle east situation with President Moktar Ould Daddah.
At the airport Dr. Zayyat pointed out the Mauritania has recently become a member of the Arab League and he had come to hear President Ould Daddah's views on what had been happening in the Middle East.
President Ould Daddah recently paid a working visit to senegal and declared that there should be unity between Africa and the Arab world.
Mauritania, he explained, could be a link between the two worlds, able to explain Africa to the Arabs and the Arab World to Africa.
The President confirmed that Mauritania had been invited to join the proposed merger between Libya and Tunisia but had not yet given a final answer.
On the same day as President Ould Daddah's talks with Dr. Zayyat he received the Director of African and Asian Affairs in the Libyan Foreign Ministry. He brought a message on Arab-African co-operation from Libya's leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.
