  • Description

A United States Air Force F104 (Starfighter) jet plane which flew June 16 from Le Bourget airfield, Paris to London and back in 30 minutes to commemorate the first cross-Channel flight by Louis Bleriot 50 years ago ---- was filmed by VISNEWS at take-off and landing.

Lt.Col. James Jabara, piloted the jet on its 400-mile flight part of the Paris Aero Show (June 12-21).

Bleriot's 78-year-old widow was at Le Bourget to watch Col.Jabara leave -- and welcomed him excitedly on his return.

The original channel crossing took Bleriot 37 minutes. The commemoration flight took 75 seconds at 1,300 m.p.h. --- a fitting anniversary demonstration. The aircraft did not land in London.

Most countries with an aircraft industry including Russia, are showing some of their products at the Aero Show. Same day as the Bleriot anniversary flight, a Fairey Rotodyne "Convertiplane" vertical take-off airliner, made a record flight for aircraft of this type -- also in conjunction with the Show. The plane established records between London and Brussels and Brussels-Paris.
