  • Description

THE AMERICAN-BORN SINGER JOSEPHINE BAKER IS MAKING A STAGE COMEBACK IN A FINAL ATTEMPT TO PREVENT THE SALE OF HER ORPHANAGE IN SOUTHERN FRANCE.

JOSEPHINE BAKER IS STILL TRYING TO RAISE ENOUGH MONEY TO SAVE HER ORPHANAGE IN SOUTHERN FRANCE FROM THE AUCTIONEERS. IN A FINAL ATTEMPT, THE AMERICAN-BORN SINGER IS MAKING A STAGE COMEBACK AT THE OLYMPIA THEATRE IN PARIS, AFTER AN ABSENCE OF FOUR YEARS.

A THEATRE SPOKESMAN HAS SAID MISS BAKER IS CONTRACTED TO APPEAR THERE FROM APRIL 3 TO APRIL 15. SHE HAS RECENTLY MADE APPEALS IN EUROPE AND NORTH AMERICA FOR FUNDS TO HELP MAINTAIN THE ORPHANAGE, IN WHICH SHE LIVES WITH HER ADOPTED CHILDREN OF MANY COLOURS AND RACES.

THE ORPHANAGE WILL BE AUCTIONED ON MAY 3 UNLESS MISS BAKER CAN RAISE 2-MILLION FRANCS (GBP170-THOUSAND STERLING) TO PAY OFF HER DEBTS.
