Background: A world-wide token strike by airline pilots of most of the world's major airlines....to draw attention to the need for more effective protection against the ever-increasing number of hijacking....grounded hundreds of aircraft scheduled to make international flights on Monday (19 June). At least twenty airlines suspended all services for the 24-hour-long strike.

There were substantial disruptions to planned services in France, at Orly Airport on the outskirts of Paris, and also at London and Tel Aviv. In Cairo, however, the Arab Transport Union was successful in persuading aircrews to continue working as normal. An organiser of the strike on Monday evening claimed success in prodding governments to act firmly against hijacking attempts.
