Background: King Hussein of Jordan arrived in Tunis yesterday for a 24-hour visit to Tunisia and talks with Tunisian President Habib Bourguiba. The two men had two rounds of talks before King Hussein left for Morocco.
King Hussein, who was accompanied by his heir apparent, Prince Hassen Ibn Talal, was met at Tunis airport by President Bourguiba. Less than two hours later, the two men met for the first of their talks, which covered the Middle East situation, the problem of Israel and the forthcoming Arab summit.
Today, they met again, accompanied by their advisers. It is thought that Tunisia is sympathetic to King Hussein's moderate approach to the post-war Middle East problem.
The King, who was due to leave Tunis today for Morocco, is on a ten-day tour of Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Turkey, Lebanon, and Libya.
