  • Description

Golfer Lee Trevino, holder of the United States Open Championship, was admitted to hospital with viral pneumonia at the weekend. It was thought unlikely that he would be able to defend his title at the U.S. Open next week.

Trevino, who also holds the British and Canadian open titles, was taken to hospital in El Paso, Texas, after withdrawing from the Philadelphia Classic golf tournament.

Immediately before withdrawing, National Broadcasting Company reporter Dick Sheep interviews Trevino out on the course. They talked about the illness that has dogged Trevino in recent weeks, and the golfer said he thought he was suffering from influenza. Despite the illness, and despite the fact that he had already started his first round, Trevino readily agreed to the interview - much to the reporter's delight.
