  • Description

At Modena in Italy on September the 7th, a giant bronze memorial will be unveiled to commemorate some six-hundred racing drivers who have died in action over the years.

The monument, standing five metres (15 ft) high, consists of a broken wing over a racing car. The base is in the shape of a globe.

The monument, which is the work of the Italian sculptor, Marino Quartieri, has received support from motor racing organisations all over the world, and from many top racing drivers, past and present.

This film traces some of the glorious and tragic moments on the track for contemporary drivers -- big names who flashed past the chequered flag first to take out world titles and numerous Grand Prix throughout the world. Some are still driving, many are dead, others have retired.
