  • Description

Now that the Ivory Coast was no longer an under-developed country, France was likely to revise its co-operation programme with the former French colony, said the French Minister for Co-operation, Jean de Lipkowski. Mr. Lipkowski was speaking during a two dy visit to Abidjan earlier this week (25 to 27 January).

The French Minister arrived in Abidjan on Sunday (25 January) and had extensive talks on Franco-Ivory Coast co-operation with President Felix Houphouet-Boigny on Monday.

At a dinner given in his honour on Monday night, Mr. Lipkowski praised President Houphouet-Boigny and his government for the way in which they had guided the Ivory Coast through the decolonisation period.

Because of this administration, the Ivory Coast could no longer be called an under-developed country, he said. It now had a national annual productivity rate increase of 7% an dan annual increase of 18% in industrial development. Because of this, it was likely that France would be reviewing its co-operation policy with the Ivory Coast, he added.
