  • Description

president Leopold Senghor of Senegal arrived in Yaounde at the beginning of last week (Monday 24th January) for talks on the dispute between Cameroun and the multi-national Air-Afrique airline. He had earlier been appointed mediator in the dispute by the member states. Cameroun's President Ahmadou Ahidjo met the Senegalese President on his arrival at Yaounde Airport, and escorted him through cheering crowds to Mont-Febe, the Presidential Palace.

President Senghor's visit to Yaounde lasted only 24 hours. Before he left for Bangui he told newsmen the talks had proved positive, and he had been instructed by Air-Afrique member-states to consult further with President Ahidjo on a possible settlement of the dispute arising from Cameroun's withdrawal from the airline. A special committee had been set up, he said, and he considered his mission successful.
