Mr. Koffi Aoussou of the Ivory Coast was on Monday (17 June) confirmed as head of the multi-national airline Air Afrique, at a spacial meeting in the Ivory Coast capital Abidjan.
Mr. Aoussou was elected to the post last July to complete the term of Mr.Cheick Fal from Senegal after he resigned as President of the airline, a post he had held since it was founded the previous year.
Mr. Aoussou's appointment was announced by the Ivory Coast Minister of Public Works and Transport Mr. Grah Kadji when he opened the meeting of Transport Ministers of the eleven member states.
The members of Air Afrique are Mauritania; Central African Republic; Congo Republic; Chad, Dahomey, Upper Volta, Niger, Senegal, Togo, Gabon and the Ivory Coast. Three years ago Air Afrique seemed to be facing break-up when Cameroon, Chad and the Central African Republic have rejoined.
SYNOPSIS: Transport ministers of eleven African nations met for a special meeting of the multi-national airline- "Air Afrique" - in Abidjan, Ivory Coast on Monday. The purpose of the meeting; to elect to new President and Director Seneral. On the left, Mr. koffi Aoussou who completed the term of Mr. Cheick Fal from Senegal who resigned last July.
The eleven nation airline was set up in nineteen sixty one by the French speaking nations of Africa. At one stage Cameroon was along a member but has withdrawn.
Ivory Coast Transport Minister Mr. Grah Kadji announced that Mr. Aoussou would continue as head of Air Afrique.
His predecessor Mr. Cheick Fal had been President and Director General since nineteen sixty two but resigned after a political conflict.
The special ministerial session was followed by meeting of the airline's Board of Directors.
