  • Description

SIGNOR ALDO MORO, THE ITALIAN PRIME MINISTER, ARRIVED IN LONDON BY BOAT-TRAIN TODAY (MONDAY) FOR A FIVE-DAY OFFICIAL VISIT AND TALKS WITH THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT.

THE BRITISH PRIME MINISTER, SIR ALEX DOUGLAS-HOME, WAS AT THE STATION TO WELCOME HIS ITALIAN GUEST.

IN A BRIEF WELCOMING STATEMENT, SIR ALEC SAID HE WOULD HAVE TALKS WITH SIGNOR MORO RANGING OVER "EVERYTHING WHICH IS OF MUTUAL CONCERN TO OUR TWO COUNTRIES." HE SAID RELATIONS BETWEEN ITALY AND BRITAIN WERE "VERY CLOSE" AND THEIR TALKS HERE THIS WEEK WOULD MAKE THEM EVEN CLOSER.

ANSWERING SIR ALEC, SIGNOR MORO SAID: "I THINK THAT OUR TALKS WILL BE MAINLY CONCERNED WITH PROBLEMS OF GENERAL INTEREST FOR THE WESTERN WORLD RATHER THAN WITH MATTERS OF EXCLUSIVE CONCERN OF OUR TWO COUNTRIES. THERE ARE, FORTUNATELY, NO ISSUES DIVING ITALY AND GREAT BRITAIN."
SIGNOR MORO AND SIR ALEC WILL HAVE THEIR FIRST TALKS THIS AFTERNOON AND AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY. THE ITALIAN PRIME MINISTER WILL ALSO MEET MR REGINALD MAUDLING, BRITAIN'S CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER, AND MR EDWARD HEATH, PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE DURING HIS FIVE-DAY VISIT WHICH ENDS ON FRIDAY.
