  • Description

The "March Against Fear" through the deep south of the United States, which was led by the negro lawyer, James Meredith, until he was ambushed and shot near Hernando, in Mississippi. Last Monday (June 6), moved on towards Jackson, the Mississippi State Capital yesterday (Friday).

The march, comprising 150 negros and white sympathisers, was heavily guarded by police as it moved slowly towards Jackson. At one stage there was an argument between police and Mr. Robert Green, Education Director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), after Highway Patrol police had ordered him to keep his car moving, instead of stopping by the marchers.
