    Greek Foreign Minister George Mavros and former President of Cyprus, Arhbishop Makarios held their fist round of talks on the future of the island in Geneva on Saturday night (7 September). The discussions lasted 90 minutes.

    After their initial meeting the two men left the conference site, in the lakeside hotel where they are both staying, and drove away in a Greek diplomatic car.

    The meeting was the first between Archbishop Makarios and a member of the new Greek Government since he was ousted from power by the military coup on July 15 which recipitated the Yurkish invasion of the island.

    Both men appeared relaxed and smiled broadly for cameramen as they left after their first round of talks. there was no official word on subjects discussed. Both men told reporters they were meeting to "exchange views", but did not go into further details.
