    The sixth African film festival has been taking place in the Upper Volta capital of Ouagadougou.

    SYNOPSIS: The festival was held at the Palace of the People In Ouagadougou and attracted a great deal of interest from the local people.

    The first festival was held in Ouagadougou ten years ago. In January this year twelve African Ministers responsible for film production and distribution held a conference in the Upper Volta capital.

    During the festival, Unites States film producer and director, Paul Michaud said that the crisis in French cinema had been exported to Africa. He claimed that African producers are being tempted to put too much into one film and that mediocrity was the enemy of the African film industry.

    The Upper Volta Minister of Information, Edouard Tani said the film industry was important in the fight for African independence. He stressed that films have a great influence on illiterate people, but said that the African industry was faced with the problem was faced with the problem that production costs could not be covered by returns from local distribution.
