Background: Khmer Government troops are currently taking part in an operation to clear one of the main routes to the country's northern regions, Highway Six. The Government force's moving up Highway Six to link up with other troops Phnom Penh and the township of Tang Krasang which has been occupied by Communist forces since May last year.
The northern thrust is part of an operation, code-named T???henla Two, towards the provincial capital of Kompong Thom which has been encircled by Communist forces for more than 16 months.
SYNOPSIS: In the Khmer Republic, Government forces have continued their advance on a two-pronged front along Highways Six and 21. Both routes lead out of Phnom Penh to the country's northern region.
The Khmer Government has thrown some of the country's best-trained troops into the northern advance.
The main troop advance was up Highway Six and their mission was to link with the other spearhead of the force moving along the Highway 21st region.
The northern thrust is part of an operation, code-named Tchenla Two, towards the provincial capital of Kompong Thom, which has been encircled by Communist forces for must than 16 months.
The Government troops fought no only the hazards of war during their advance towards the embattled township. The monsoon season is just ending.
The operation against the Communist stronghold is continuing.
