    The records continue to tumble at the National Amateur Athletic Union Swimming Championships in Kansas City, Kansas, U.S.A. The latest came on Saturday (23 August) when a team from Long Beach Swimming Club broke the world record for the men's 800 metres freestyle relay.

    The team: 20-year-old Rex Fraquerro, 17-year-old Tim Shaw and the Furniss brothers, 22-year-old Steve and 18-year-old Bruce shaved three seconds off the previous standard.

    The U.S. national team set the old record of 7 minutes 33 seconds two years ago in Yugoslavia.

    Of the Long Beach team, Tim Shaw and Bruce Furniss are individual world record holders in freestyle events.
