Background: The First International Festival of Films and Programmes about Palestine was held in Baghdad from 19-22 March 1973 under the motto: "The Liberation of Palestine is the Cornerstone of World Peace".
The Festival is held under the auspices of the Arab States Broadcasting Union in conjunction with The Arab League and the Palestinian Liberation Organisation.
According to a circular released by the Festival's General Secretariat, the purpose of the Festival is to encourage "the making of films about the palestinian issue and the occupied Arabian Territories." This includes documentaries for television and cinema, shorter television reports, and plays.
Golden and silver trophies, plus 150 ID. (approximately 185 Sterling) and 100 ID (125 Sterling), respectively, are to be awarded to the winners and runners-up in each category of the competition.
