  • Description

Iran's new government has rejected Western criticism of the summary execution of the country's former Prime Minister, Amir Abbas Hoveyda. Government officials say Mr. Hoveyda was a "traitor and a corrupt man" who had to take the consequences. An Islamic Revolutionary Court pronounced the death sentence on Saturday (7 April) and five hours later, Mr. Hoveyda had been executed by a single pistol shot. The former Prime Minister's cousin -- Mr. Farib Hoveyda -- is an oil executive who lives in London. On Monday (9 April) he spoke to Visnews reporter, John Darby.
