    AT THE CEREMONY WHICH WAS ATTENDED BY MR. MORARJI DESAI THE INDIAN DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER, THE AGA KHAN SAID 'WE HOPE THAT GHANDHI'S MEMORY AND THE NOBLE AND PROFOUNDLY HUMAN IDEALS FOR WHICH HE LIVED WILL NOT ONLY BE REMEMBERED BUT PRACTISED BY ALL THOSE WHO WILL VISIT THIS PALACE IN THE FUTURE'.

    THE AGA KHAN, THE 32 YEAR OLD LEADER OF THE ISMAILI MOSLEMS, ARRIVED IN BOMBAY ON FRIDAY FOR A SIX DAY VISIT. HE IS ACCOMPANIED BY HIS BROTHER, PRINCE AMIN.

    THE TWO STOREY PALACE, FIVE MILES SOUTH OF POONA, WAS BEGUN IN 1897 TO GIVE WORK DURING A PERIOD OF FAMINE IN THE BOMBAY PROVINCE. MAHATMA GANDHI WAS IMPRISONED IN THE PALACE BETWEEN 1942 AND 1944. HIS WIFE, KASTURBA DIED THERE IN 1944. THIS WEEKEND'S CEREMONY TOOK PLACE ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF HER DEATH.
