  • Description

THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL ASIAN TRADE FAIR IN BANGKOK HAS JUST COMPLETED ITS SECOND WEEK. CROWD ATTENDANCES FOR THE PERIOD HAVE ALREADY REACHED THE ONE MILLION MARK. THIS FIGURE IS EXPECTED TO INCREASE BEFORE THE FAIR ENDS ON DECEMBER 10.

THE FAIR SITE IS AT HUA MARK, 10 MILES FROM BANGKOK. THIRTY-FOUR NATIONS ARE PARTICIPATING. AMONG THEM ARE WEST GERMANY, THE SOVIET UNION, FRANCE, HONGKONG AND AUSTRALIA.

THE HALL OF NATIONS HOUSES STANDS OF GOVERNMENTS WHICH DO NOT HAVE THEIR OWN PAVILIONS.

THERE HAS BEEN FAVOURABLE COMMENT ON THE ORIGINAL DESIGN OF MANY OF THE PAVILIONS. EXPERTS SAY THE CONDUCT OF THE FAIR HAS BEEN EXCELLENT IN EVERY RESPECT.

HONGKONG PAVILION -- ITS MAIN ENTRANCE IS SHAPED LIKE A MOON. THE PAVILION CREATES AN IMAGE OF A MODERN PROGRESSIVE CITY.

ON DISPLAY ARE MORE THAN 1,000 ITEMS, INCLUDING INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS WHICH THE BRITISH COLONY SUPPLIES TO 150 COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD.

ONE OF THE MOST DISCUSSED PAVILIONS IS THE AUSTRALIAN BUILDING. IT IS THE THIRD LARGEST AND HAS THE MOST VISITORS. IT COVERS AN AREA OF 21,600 SQUARE FEET AND IS FULLY AIR-CONDITIONED.

AUSTRALIAN AIR HOSTESSES -- MISS CAROLE BRANDENBERG (LEFT) OF TRANS-AUSTRALIA AIRLINES AND MISS CAROLYN HUDSON (RIGHT) OF QANTAS AIRWAYS -- WELCOME GUESTS JUST INSIDE THE MAIN ENTRANCE. THEY CONSTANTLY HANDOUT BROCHURES DEPICTING LIFE IN AUSTRALIA.

THERE HAVE BEEN MANY INQUIRES FROM POSSIBLE BUYERS OF AUSTRALIAN GOODS AND PRODUCTS, AND OFFICIALS FEEL THAT THE DISPLAY HAS GENERATED A GREAT AMOUNT OF INTEREST IN THE CAPABILITIES OF AUSTRALIAN MANUFACTURES.

THE EXHIBITION DIFFERS FROM THAT USUALLY ASSOCIATED WITH TRADE FAIRS IN THAT IT TELLS THE STORY IN PICTURES AND PRODUCTS OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF A DESERTED CONTINENT INTO A THRIVING INDUSTRIALISED NATION. EXHIBITS COVER EVERY FACET OF AUSTRALIAN INDUSTRY AND ENTERPRISE.
