  • Description

The French fashion house, Christian Dior, presented its ready-to-wear collection for autumn's fashion-conscious women at a showing in London on Tuesday (9 August).

The London collection was by Danish designer Jorn Langberg who works at Dior's London salon.

Also shown was the new Dior knitwear collection which will soon be sold in shops throughout Britain.

In addition to the London collection, Dior furs were flown in from Paris. These ranged from luxurious coats in dyed fox to a pink mink evening stole. These were selling at a walkway price of between 2000 and 3000 thousand pounds sterling (4000 to 6000 U.S. dollars).

Trousers were back again in the day wear collection....this time at the new ankle length and teamed with knee-high, high-heeled boots.

The favourite colours appeared to be burgundy and rust.

SYNOPSIS: The London salon of the French fashion house Christian Dior. On Tuesday, the salon buzzed when the latest ready-to-wear collection was presented. A mere two or three thousand pounds sterling was needed to take this pink mink of the peg. Colours were mainly subdued apart from this dashing evening outfit. The lame jacket was there for the taking at three hundred and fifty pounds and the slim line navy dress was going for seventy-five pounds. This collection was designed by Danish fashion wizard Jorn Langberg who is attached to Dior's London salon.

In spite of recent attempts by fashionable personalities to wear artificial fur as a means of conservation, the real thing was very much in evidence. These dyed fox coats were flown across from Paris. They were selling from two thousand pounds upwards.

The theme of natural fabrics prevailed with wool being most popular. This blue coat was offset with a dress and scarf in blue angora.

And it was welcome back to the poncho again. This version matched up with a two-piece suit in blue and purple striped jersey. Knee-high boots were incorporated with many of the styles.

The colours burgundy and rust were favoured for autumn to fashionable women. Here a burgundy knitted dress with fringed scarf and a winter coat in rust wool with a retching skirt. Suede and leather boots completed the look. Dior has also brought trousers back. This camel angora jersey suit showed off the new ankle length trousers to advantage. For rainy days, there was a lined poplin jacket in beige.
