SYNOPSIS: At Damascus airport, an important moment in Syria's relations with Eastern Europe on Monday as Syrian Prime Minister Mahmoud Al-Ayoubi waits to greet the visiting Czechoslovak Premier, Mr. Lubomir Strougal Over the past few years, Czechoslovakia has been building up increasing ties with the Arab world - even to the extent of seeking Arab oil to supplement supplies imported from the Soviet Union. And Monday visit was designed to strengthen the bond still further.

Not long after the airport formalities were over, the two Prime Ministers were closeted for their first round of talks. Top of the agents were methods of building up closer co-operation between their two countries - the subject of several agreements in the past. Many of the Syria Ministers that Mr. Strougal met at the airport - including those responsible for Economic Affairs, Planning and Industry - were present for the discussions.
