  • Description

Next January, the second Black World and African Festival of Arts and Culture will be held at Lagos and Kaduna in Nigeria. Already preparations are well in hand, and the International Festival Committee which is organising the event has been holding its tenth and final meeting in Lagos, the nigerian capital.

SYNOPSIS: During their meeting, however, the members took time off to visit the Festival site at Kaduna to see how building projects there were progressing. They were led by the Festival Committee's President, Mr. O.P. Fingesi, who is Nigeria's Federal Commissioner for Special Duties. They first saw some of the low-cost housing that will provide some accommodation for visitors.

The race-course which can seat 25,000 people, has been renamed after the late head-of-state, General Murtala Mohammed. During the Festival, Kaduna will enjoy a grand durbar which will last for a full week, and it is expected that fifteen thousand horsemen and camel-riders will take part. The arena has two pavilions and a State pavilion.

The Naira Hotel Durbar is another of the showcase buildings erected especially for the Festival. It was the largest of the projects the Nigerian Military Government undertook for next January. Other facilities include a swimming pool, tennis courts, and an exhibition hall.
