    TRACY SMITH, 24, OF THE U.S. ARMY WON THE MEN'S 5,000 METRE EVENT AFTER A DUEL WITH NEW ZEALANDER REX MADDAFORD. SMITH LED UP TO THE 2,000 METRE MARK BUT MADDAFORD SURGED IN FRONT IN THE NEXT 1,000 METRES. HE THEN LOST THIS LEAD TO THE AMERICAN AND IN THE LAST 200 METRES SMITH OPENED UP WITH A STRONG SPURT TO WIN BY 45 METRES. HIS TIME WAS 13 MINUTES 40.2 SECONDS WITH MADDAFORD CLOCKING 13 MINUTES 45.8 SECONDS.

    IN THE WOMEN'S 100 METRE HURDLES AUSTRALIAN PAMELA KILBORN LED FROM THE START AND WON EASILY IN 13.8 SECONDS. HER TEAM-MATE PENELOPE MCCALLUM CAME SECOND WITH 14.0 SECONDS AND AMERICAN JENNIFER LAMY WAS THIRD WITH 14.2 SECONDS.

    THE TWO-DAY GAMES ENDED ON SUNDAY (28 SEPTEMBER).
