    AN AUSTRALIAN PILOT, LIEUTENANT C.A. MILLER, 35, WHO WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED IN AN AIR CRASH NEAR TOOWOOMBA, QUEENSLAND, LAST SUNDAY DURING AN AERIAL PAGEANT, IS NOW RECOVERING IN A HOSPITAL.

    THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED WHEN MILLER, FLYING AN ARMY CESSNA AIRCRAFT, WAS DEMONSTRATING HOW ARMY SUPPLIES ARE DROPPED BY PARACHUTE.

    THE CESSNA RECONNAISSANCE PLANES TOOK OFF IN PAIRS BEFORE EACH AIR DROP. THEY WERE TO FLY PAST AGAIN AND DROP THEIR MOCK SUPPLIES TO THE AIRFIELD.

    MORE THAN 2,000 PEOPLE, INCLUDING RELATIVES OF LIEUTENANT MILLER, WATCHED THE DISPLAY. THEN IT HAPPENED.....MILLER'S PLANE FLYING LOW, CRASHED A QUARTER OF A MILE FROM THE AIRFIELD.

    THE FIRST ON THE SCENE WAS CAPTAIN ROSS WHO LANDED HIS HELICOPTER AND DRAGGED MILLER FREE FROM THE BURNING PLANE. EYE WITNESSES SAID MILLER'S PLANE SLID ALONG THE GROUND THROUGH A FENCE BEFORE TURNING ON ITS BACK AND CATCHING FIRE.
