    IN TOKYO, 3,000 STUDENTS RANSACKED A POLICE POST AND SMASHED SHOP AND CAR WINDOWS DURING THURSDAY'S (20 OCTOBER) PROTEST DEMONSTRATIONS AGAINST AMERICAN POLICY IN VIETNAM.

    TWENTY-FIVE POLICE WERE INJURED AND THERE WERE SEVENTEEN ARRESTS. IN THE WORST INCIDENT ABOUT 600 STUDENTS TORE UP PAVING STONES AND HURLED THEM AT THE POLICE.

    NEXT DAY, STUDENTS WERE AGAIN IN THE FORE WITH PROTEST DEMONSTRATIONS AT OMIYA CITY, NORTH OF TOKYO. THEY ALSO HURLED STONES AT THE POLICE, AND INJURED 15.

    THE PROTESTS FLARED AS TRADE UNIONS STAGED A NATIONWIDE STRIKE OVER VIETNAM BUT THE POLICE REPORTED THAT FEWER THAN A MILLION WORKERS OUT OF FIVE MILLION CONCERNED ACTUALLY OBEYED THE STRIKE CALL.
