Football -- and in a friendly international Portugal beat Italy 2-1 on a ???uddy, rain-soaked pitch in Lisbon before a meagre crowd of 2,000.
SYNOPSIS: Most of the action came in the second half with the Italians, kicking from right to left in the dark tops, already one-nil down. Portugal's first goal had come from Nene in the 16th minute. The Italians played in generally lack-lustre style, only picking up towards the end of the game after they were two-nil down. Portugal's hero of the game as Alves in the number ten strip at midfield, ho controlled much of the play with delicate foot-work and intelligent passing. In the 65th minute, he contributed towards Portugal's second goal -- again from Nene, at number nine.
The Italians rallied a little after that, but several attempts on the home goal were unsuccessful. Play was restricted by the mud and rain, which kept away a number of spectators -- who could anyway see the match live on television at home.
A corner to Italy -- and an expert save by Bento in goal.
Italy's only goal -- too late to save the game -- caused something of a row. Bettega at number eleven, who finally banged it in after some confusion, was accused by the Portuguese of being offside.
