Background: Two men are known dead and 23 other people are missing after two oil tankers collided and burst into flames while docking at an oil terminal at Marcus Hook, on the Delaware river, near Philadelphia yesterday (January 31).

The area became a mass of flames when the American tanker Edgar M Queeny, 19,000 tons, hit the Greek tanker Corinthos, 30,000 tons, while the Corinthos was discharging her tanks.

The explosion which followed shattered windows ten blocks away from the oil dock, which was devastated in the fire.

The two bodies so far recovered from the inferno are those of a Greek seaman and another man, so far unidentified. Twenty-three other crewmen from the Greek ship are also unaccounted for.
