Employees of the British Commonwealth's largest hotel - in Toronto - were on strike recently. Negotiations between management and the hotel's twelve-hundred employees failed to result in a new contract and pickets surrounded the building an hour later.
Nearly twenty-five hundred guests were staying at the hotel when the strike started. Normally, they would be served by the huge staff, but now they would have to carry their own bags, make their own beds, and generally look after themselves.
The hotel management said it will stay open and maintain essential services. The supervisory staff, and engineering workers continued vital duties.
