Background: Uganda's Foreign Minister, Mr Wanume Kibedi, on Saturday (16 Dec) married Miss Elizabeth Kazibwe....a law student....in a civil ceremony at Kampala City Hall attended by President Amin and many other national and visiting dignitaries. The ceremony was conducted by the Assistant District Commissioner of Kampala, Mr Okot Chona, and the guests included the Somalia and Ethiopian Foreign Ministers. The reception which followed at Kampala's Independence Park was locally described as second only to former President Obote's, seven years ago.

Invited guests at the wedding included Uganda's President General Idi Amin.
The arrival of the groom...Foreign Minister, Wanume Kibedi....and his bride-to-be, Miss Elizabeth Kazibwe, a law student at Makerere University.
During the civil ceremony, conducted by Mr. Okot Chona...Kampala's Assistant District Commissioner...the couple exchange wedding rings.
At the end of the ceremony, the usual round of photographs before the reception....in this case held in Kampala's Independence Park.
Among invited guests were the Foreign Ministers of Somalia and Ethiopia.
Uganda's newspapers described the event as "the wedding of the year."
