Background: More riots in the Congo - they came after Colonel Mobutu's troops arrested the Governor of Leopoldville Province, Mr. Cleophas Kamitatu, who is a strong supporter of Lumumba.
Nov. 10 a crowd demonstrated against the arrest outside the United Nations headquarters in Leopoldville. An official tried to calm the mob but it was in vain. They turned on the police and started attacking them. United Nations troops moved in and fired in the air to disperse the rioters.
But trouble continued. The crowd started beating up other civilians - among them an African woman who fled for her life.
The mob then headed angrily for Colonel Mobutu's home, but this time United Nations troops intervened to put an end to the riot before Congolese troops became involved. Reports said that twenty people were injured in the city's worst outbreak of violence for some weeks.
