  • Description

THREE THOUSAND WARLIKE 'NANDI' TRIBESMEN WERE ADDRESSED AT ELDORET JANUARY 14 BY LEADERS OF THE KENYA GOVERNMENT PARTY, 'KADU' (KENYA AFRICAN DEMOCRATIC UNION), WHO DECLARED THAT THERE WOULD BE WAR IN KENYA UNLESS THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT AGREED TO THEIR PLAN FOR 'REGIONALISM' IN THE COUNTRY BEFORE THE LONDON CONSTITUTIONAL CONFERENCE ENDED IN FEBRUARY.

SENIOR KADU OFFICIAL AND SECRETARY OF KENYA'S DEFENCE MINISTRY, ARAP MURGOR, WAS GREETED WITH SHOUTS OF APPROVAL WHEN HE SAID: "IF WE FAIL TO GET REGIONALISM IN LONDON I WILL SEND AT TELEGRAM...IT WILL BE A SIGN FOR YOU TO DECLARE WAR - WHEN YOU RECEIVE MY SIGNAL START PREPARING YOUR SPEARS - WE WILL LEAVE IT TO GOD TO DECIDE WHO WILL WIN".

MR.NGALA, PRESIDENT OF KADU, ISSUED A STATEMENT IN NAIROBI LAST WEEK GIVING A FURTHER INDICATION THAT THE MIND OF HIS PARTY IS INCLINED MORE AND MORE TOWARDS THE IDEA OF AN EAST AFRICAN FEDERATION TO WHICH KADU'S PLAN FOR REGIONALISM IN KENYA WOULD BE A FIRST STEP.

HE SAID HE HAD WRITTEN TO MR.NYERERE, PRIME MINISTER OF TANGANYIKA, AND TO THE KABAKA OF BUGANDA, AND THE LEADERS OF THE TWO MAIN UGANDA POLITICAL PARTIES, SUGGESTING THAT THEY SHOULD ATTEND DISCUSSIONS ON THE FUTURE OF THE COASTAL STRIP DURING NEXT MONTH'S LONDON CONFERENCE ON KENYA.THE UGANDA LEADERS HAD ALREADY EXPRESSED VERBAL INTEREST IN THE IDEA.
