  • Description

Thirty-eight Oxford University students have bought themselves a 20-year old London bus for GBP350 and are driving it to Moscow via Berlin, Warsaw, and Minsk.

Before leaving London three of the students, who will be driving the bus during the 3-4 week trip--John Cockrane; Carey Parker of Philadelphia. USA; and Lord Wolmer--took a course at the famous London Transport Driving School at Chiswick, London Aug 11. Outstanding feature of the course is the skid-patch. Specially designed to accustom London bus drivers to any skidding encountered in the London Streets.

On arrival in Berlin Aug 12 they were stopped by traffic police who were a little doubtful about the height of the bus. Berlin regulations state four meters maximum height for vehicles passing through the city. The bus is four meters thirty. All was solved satisfactorily when the co-operative Berlin police agreed to lead the bus through.

Originally there were forty students, paying fifty pounds fare each, but two dropped out at the last moment.
